He is batting .285 well below his mark from last year and 2005 plus he has 7 errors so far this year. He had a total of 7 all last year and a gold glove to go with it. 44 RBI in the 3 hole is OK, but defiantly not worth the 13.5 million if you throw out the batting average and the gold glove D.2008-06-19T19:51:09-04:001000706http://www.allthingscubs.com/Topics/Offense/2008/06/11/Soriano_is_down_again_who_will_be_coming_up/Soriano is down again, who will be coming up?Sorinao got hit by a pitch and fractured his middle finger today. He does sit tight to the plate, but this could not have come at a worse time. He is said to be out 6 weeks so who will be coming up from AAA? You pick http://iowa.cubs.milb.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?t=t_ibp&cid=451&stn=true&sid=t451 - There most likley will be to youngsters as we will be going back to 12 pitchers and a spot open for Sorinao on the DL.2008-06-11T23:05:53-04:001000670http://www.allthingscubs.com/Topics/Other/2008/06/04/ESPN_is_dumb_and_retarted/ESPN is dumb and retardedThe Cubs have the best record in baseball and the most potent offense as well and all ESPN has about the Cubs on the front page is Batman. I was sitting on my couch for the first part of the game to stay awake, however, as it got latter the bed seemed more and more appealing. (Staring at the wall and listing to the radio is kind of boring). I finally convinced myself that I could lie in bed and stay up to finish the game; I was wrong. After 10 minutes I was out, but my brain kicked back on when it heard Pat say "Cubs Win! Cubs Win!" and I listened to the post game to hear what I had missed.2008-06-04T12:44:41-04:001000646http://www.allthingscubs.com/Topics/Offense/2008/05/31/WOW_Our_bench_can_do_it_all/WOW - Our bench can do it all. That was one of the best games I have heard ever! I almost turned it off too. So many amazing things happened yesterday. Micah with 2 doubles, and Edmons homer plus a 2 rbi double, a Fukudome 2 run homer and Henry Blanco 2 run HOMER (has not hit one since 2006) and a high D-Row Homer. Not to forget Marmol striking out the side on 10 pitches all looking strike 3 calls! I am still speechless.2008-05-31T10:22:01-04:001000637http://www.allthingscubs.com/Topics/Other/2008/05/29/New_season_high_water_mark_12/New season high water mark - 12The Cubs have the best record in the National League (sounds like a song I know). If you are a true Cub fan you have to soak this in now and as long as we can as we don't know how long it will last. 23-8 @ home BO YA! This is also the most above .500 since 2004.2008-05-29T23:22:00-04:001000570http://www.allthingscubs.com/Topics/Other/2008/05/19/I_hate_ESPN_and_love_the_Santo/I hate ESPN and love the Santo(I turned on Radio 720 and had ESPN on mute tonight) Don't get me wrong a no hitter is nice, but it happens every year now so I don't understand why ESPN can't do picture in picture. They cut out the 7th to watch the last of the Boston ninth. I would much rather see the Cubs than some schmo throw a no hitter when I can see the highlights later. On a lighter note during the bottom of the eighth when the Astros had a man at 2nd and 3rd and Marmol saved the day you could hear Ron shouting at a fan to move a sign out of the way. Then in the top of the ninth when Ram smacked a 2 run homer and the fan left Ron gave a meaning full "Have a nice night!" to the fan which we were not supposed to hear on the air. I don't think Rons cough button was working tonight.2008-05-19T22:41:09-04:001000537http://www.allthingscubs.com/Topics/Management/2008/05/14/Jim_Edmons_this_has_bad_karma_written_all_over_it/Jim Edmons, this has bad karma written all over it.It's a move like this that could spell bad luck for the Cubbies. I understand that it's a no risk move since is only the minimum salary, but this guy bleeds all kinds of red from being a St. Lou Cardinal for so long. Not to mention that we are replacing a young speedy center fielder for an old and not as speedy center fielder.2008-05-14T23:28:21-04:001000530http://www.allthingscubs.com/Topics/Offense/2008/05/13/Sorinao_Heating_Up_Please_God/Sorinao Heating Up? Please God.Not only will a hot Soriano right now help the Cubs kick even more ass, but it will make every body fell better. He has 9 RBI in the past 9 games and even was benched in one. Plus it will help make some of the 18 million worth it this year. Let's hope for another 3 home runs in 5 pitches. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/profile?playerId=39932008-05-13T20:05:00-04:001000490http://www.allthingscubs.com/Topics/Offense/2008/05/07/Crystal_Lake_Illinois_Scott_Olsen_has_shout_out_the_Brewers_twice/Crystal Lake Illinois Scott Olsen has shout out the Brewers twice.APR 25 - IP:7.1 H:4 R:0 ER:0 HR:0 BB:5 SO:0 MAY 06 - IP:8.2 H:2 R:0 ER:0 HR:0 BB:4 SO:8 This kid went to Crystal Lake South HS and was in the same grade as me, but I never knew him (wish I did as I could get some free tickets). I hope we don't have to face him when we see Florida as we weren't even able to beat them once last year. His first time out against the Crew had 5 BB, but the other night he was close to a no hitter.2008-05-07T22:02:50-04:001000459http://www.allthingscubs.com/Topics/Offense/2008/05/03/Yovani_Gallardo_is_out_for_the_season_and_Rich_Hill_may_be_too/Yovani Gallardo is out for the season and Rich Hill may be too.I was at this game and saw it happen live folks. This will help take some of the pressure off of the Cubs I think. Reed Johnson for 1.3 million has been nothing, but a gold mine this season. Nothing about this play was intentional or anything just bad luck and now the Brewers know what an early injury in the season can do to a team (Derek Lee 2006). We have our own problems though RICH HILL. What the heck has happened to this guy. Last night he strikes out the lead of man on 3 pitches then walks four to load the bags an bring in a run. Leiber or Marshal I think will be here soon. I think Lou will give Rich one more shot and will say bye bye after that if its anything like the performance of last night.2008-05-03T12:04:47-04:001000458http://www.allthingscubs.com/Topics/Other/2008/05/03/Good_time_at_the_game_on_May_1st/Good time at the game on May 1st.Here is proof that Luke and I were at the game on May 1st. This picture does not do justice as to the amount of Old Style consumed. http://www.printroom.com/popupImage.asp?img_id=91302319&effectRGB= Two things wrong with this picture though, 1. The dumb Sox fan behind us and 2. The woman to the left of me who hated us for being overly obnoxious (Old Styles fault thought). Oh and the picture lady would not allow the shocker, the reverse shocker or the star trek sign for "live long and prosper"2008-05-03T11:56:54-04:001000395http://www.allthingscubs.com/Topics/Offense/2008/04/22/All_hail_the_offense_and_defense_and_pitching/All hail the offense....and defense and pitchingCheck out these numbers http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/stats/sortable_team_stats.jsp?c_id=chc plus this is with a cold and currently no Soriano. I know that this pace will not keep, well probably not, but look at all the guys with obp over .400! It just amazing right now and it nice to ride this high as a Cubs fans; god knows it is well over due. Also the Cubs lead the league in pitches seen per plate appearance and Fukudome leads the league individually, something like 4.9 pitches per at bat.2008-04-22T20:43:05-04:001000353http://www.allthingscubs.com/Topics/Management/2008/04/16/Sorinao_down_Patterson_up_WTF/Sorinao down, Patterson up? WTFIs this just so that Eric can stick it to his brother Correy during this Reds series? I don't get this move at all besides it being a left handed bat, but guess what we have a ton of those on the bench. Why is Murton in the dog house and not up while Sorinao is on the 15 day DL? Eri Pat, haha get it like Co Pat, has not proven anything while Murton has shown that he can hit and drive in runs.2008-04-16T17:45:22-04:001000319http://www.allthingscubs.com/Topics/Offense/2008/04/10/Ugliest_Sweep_Ever/Ugliest Sweep Ever?I am no doubt about it happy that we got our first SWEEP of the season, but my god I never want to go back to PNC Park again. A lot of good and a lot of bad came out of this 3 games series with the Bucks. 1) a sweep of course 2) 5 wins in a row 3) off to a better start this year than last. 4) Leiber saved the day twice. However, 1) we taxed the crap out our bull pen in the first 2 marathons of games and then Rich Hill goes only 3 innings today! He totally did not step up when we needed him to eat some innings. Hopefully that was an anomaly for Rich. 2) Wood blew a save that could have shortened the game by 6 innings. 3) Lee is back in a slump. 4) Lilly got rocked again, and blew a 7-0 lead! There is plenty more good and bad, but it's too early in the year for me to keep going. Let's just keep winning series and move on.2008-04-10T23:00:45-04:001000284http://www.allthingscubs.com/Topics/Offense/2008/04/04/Warm_weather_this_weekend_Yes_Please/Warm weather this weekend...Yes Please!Let's (Yes this is the correct spelling unlike the Ernie Banks statue who has it spelled "Lets") hope that the warm weather this weekend will help spark the Cubs hitters and we can be 3-3 by Monday. It seems like we are much to aggressive at the plate and need to claim down a little bit, along with a little bad luck. I mean how many balls will Soto hit to deep center only to die on the warning track!2008-04-04T19:32:32-04:001000266http://www.allthingscubs.com/Topics/Offense/2008/04/02/Expect_to_see_Soriano_in_the_lead_off_spot_tomorrow/Expect to see Soriano in the lead off spot tomorrow...Lou says he is putting Soriano back in the 1 hole tomorrow since he is not hitting. Unfortunately that is not going to fix the defensive problems that we had today, not to mention the bullpen sucking. So much for the fast start this season. I think the players are in for a talking from Lou tonight and I am glad I am not them.2008-04-02T18:02:39-04:001000246http://www.allthingscubs.com/Topics/Other/2008/03/30/Destiny_Awaits/Destiny Awaits....1 more day untill the season starts... I think we are going to dominate this year and there is no reason we should not, but this is the Cubs let's not forget. Wood, Z, Ram, Sor, Lee, Fuku I hope dominate.2008-03-30T11:32:14-04:001000232http://www.allthingscubs.com/Topics/Other/2008/03/27/Old_Style_Get_your_Old_Style_HERE/Old Style! The cubs have not made the playoffs two years in a row, in well, a long freaking time! Is everything too hyped this year? Could it be another 2004? Meanwhile you have Milwaukee winning a lot of spring training games with their offense (I am hoping for a sophomore slump). I know we have been throwing out the minor league squad a lot, but we better start picking up the pace starting now!2008-03-15T22:48:42-04:001000054http://www.allthingscubs.com/Topics/Pitching/2008/03/15/Horray_The_real_Dumpster_I_mean_Dempster_is_back/Horray! The real Dumpster, I mean Dempster is back.I hope the cubs have not locked in Ryan Dempster yet for the 3rd spot in the rotation. In yesterdays game (3/14/2008) he was his old self allowing 6 ERs on 5 hits all in the second inning. To bad he was not closing the game as he might have gotten the save. I think that this is what we are going to see from Demp if he becomes a start again; a lot of games where is is yanked before the 4th inning and a major strain on our bullben.2008-03-15T11:20:14-04:00
